A few thoughts for new Mom's. You most likely are going to get a lot of clothes for your baby because that is what people like to buy. Something is so alluring about buying little babies clothing. I, too, cannot resist an adorable baby outfit! It is cute and the awww factor when a new Mom opens this gift is much more vocalized than when she opens a box of diapers...even though diapers are just as much needed, if not more, than clothes that they only wear for a few weeks or months. Trust me, you're going to want to wash the clothes and have it ready to wear once you give birth. Those first few weeks are utterly exhausting and the last thing you'll want to do is wash baby clothes. Oh, and p.s. if you are a new mom like I was; make sure you buy baby laundry detergent. Sometimes these things just don't occur to a person if you've never done it before. Although I recommend having the baby clothes washed and ready to go for when he or she arrives - I suggest leaving a handful with the tags on and not washed yet. You really don't know what size your baby is going to be and it's really pretty silly to have more than a few outfits in the newborn stage unless he or she is a premie. FJ was only in newborn clothes for the first 5 weeks and he was 8.0 pounds. Lots of new moms complain to me that many of their kids outgrew the clothes before they even got a chance to wear them - so many of the outfits got packed away with tags still on them.
If you're the one buying baby clothes (not that I nor anyone else doesn't appreciate the kind gesture!) please make sure you always include a receipt since it's hard to predict the size of the baby unless you get 6 months and older. Not all babies even fit into newborn clothes at all. OR here's what really can waste your money: not buying around the right size to match the season. For example, if my baby is barely two months by Christmas, don't buy a Christmas outfit that says 6 months old because there is no way he will fit into it for Christmas (lol too many of my friends and family always wonder if my blogs are about them and so let me answer them now...no one did this it was only an example and recommendation so people don't waste their money.) I just want your friend's baby to be able to wear the outfit you bought him/her and not have thrown your money right down the drain. But, hey, if you do happen to get the wrong size with the season, I bet you can always find a friend, family member, or coworker who could use it! Maternity clothes, baby clothes, and baby items can be costly so I'm all about sharing as much as possible!
